Please be aware that on Thursday, April 26th the Kansas House will vote on Senate Bill No. 415 when they return to session. This bill will first go through the conference committee and then to a final vote in both the Senate and the House. The Senate initially voted 40-0 in favor, so the focus needs to be on the House members.
This bill is critical to the future of our Kansas State Fair. It would allow the fair to keep 5% of the 6.5% State sales tax, which is generated on the fairgrounds annually, that equates to an estimated $400,000. This money would go directly into the capital fund for use on major renovation of buildings. The Bison Building and Expo Buildings are in dire need of renovation. To address these two buildings, we need to secure source of revenue, which would be in addition to the $300,000 we are currently allowed to allocate annually to capital.
I’ve enclosed a list of talking points to use if you call your House Representative, or points that can be used to write a note on a pre-stamped postcard. For your convenience, the House Members phone numbers and addresses are also included.
