BG (R) William (Bill) Turner is a graduate of the United States Military Academy (USMA) and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Field Artillery in 1986. While at USMA he earned a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Engineering Management. While in the Army he attended the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth and earned a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the National War College.

He has commanded at the Battery, Battalion, and Brigade levels. Other assignments have included service as Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff of the Army, Deputy Director & Director Joint Interagency Task Force for Multi-National Force- Iraq, Director of the Army Campaign Plan, Executive Officer (XO) to the Headquarters Department of the Army Plans/Operations Officer and XO to the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army (VCSA). From 2014-2016 he served as the 51st Commandant of the United States Army Field Artillery School and Chief of the Field Artillery before his final assignment 2016-2017 as the Deputy Commanding General (Support), 1st Infantry Division. He has served in a variety of locations including the Federal Republic of Germany, Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Korea and been afforded many unique professional experiences while serving with the 1st Armored Division, 1st Infantry Division, 25th Infantry Division, XVIII Airborne Corps, 1st Army, and in the Pentagon.Following his service in the Army, and prior to serving in his current capacity, Bill was a Senior Mentor with the Mission Command Training Program at Fort Leavenworth, KS.

He is married to the former LTC (R) Alissa Deuel and they have four children. Their eldest, Eric is a 1LT in the Army serving in the 82nd ABN Division and Sarah is a 2LT in the US Army Reserve attending Medical School . Their two younger children are Rita Claire, a sophomore at Kansas State University, and Morgan, a freshman at University of Oklahoma.
