Gary Keenan’s canvas is a log and his paintbrush is a chainsaw. Buzz on over to watch Keenan take a blank section of timber and turn it into a work of art using his chainsaw. His wooden masterpieces — bears, birds, boots and other animals and objects — will be auctioned off at 4 p.m. Sept. 14 at Bretz and Young Injury Lawyers Arena. Hours/Location: Located northwest of Lake Talbott, demonstrations take place at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sponsored by Star Lumber and Leech Adhesives.
The State Fair provides an opportunity for patrons of all ages to learn more about Kansas fisheries and wildlife. Holding more than 3,200 gallons of water and weighing in at over 40,000 pounds, this Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism aquarium provides up-close views of many popular Kansas sport fish. Hours/Location: Talk to a fisheries expert from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily; located across from the Domestic Arts Building on Cottonwood Avenue.
