ADVANCE PURCHASED TICKETS: Exhibitor tickets purchased at time of entry will only be issued to the exhibitor upon the receipt of their item(s). For any reason, should exhibitors miss the designated receiving hours or choose not to bring their entry/entries, exhibitors waive your right to receive ordered tickets. The Kansas State Fair has a “No Refund Policy”. All advance purchased exhibitor / gate tickets must be “paid in full” by August 15th. If payment has not been made by the August 15th deadline, tickets will not be issued.

DEFINITIONS:

ORIGINAL - Refers to “you” as the artist

AMATEUR - A person who gives their personal time in pursuit of making art. They do not sell their work regularly as a business.

DIGITAL GICELÉE PAINTING - Original Art is an original digital drawing or painting created by an artist using software such as Art Rage, Gimp, Photo Shop, Corel Painter, etc., with either a tablet and stylus or a mouse. This may be printed on a stretched canvas, a canvas board, or canvas paper which has been framed.

GICELÉE REPRODUCTION OF ORIGINAL ART - is a printed copy of an artist's original painting or drawing that has been printed on a canvas using digital devices such as computers, scanners, printers, or printing services. This may be printed on stretched canvas, a canvas board, or canvas paper which has been framed.

DIGITAL GICELÉE PAINTING OR GICELÉE REPRODUCTION OF ORIGINAL ART - Embellished is an original digital giclée painting, drawing, or reproduction of original art that has been printed on a canvas using digital devices which has been embellished using paint, brush strokes, varnish, etc., to add texture, dimensions, or interest. This may be printed on stretched canvas, canvas board, or canvas paper which has been framed.


All entries are subject to the Kansas State Fair General Rules in addition to any department, division or class rules listed



ALL EXHIBITORS:

  • *NEW - A $1.00 handling fee per exhibitor, due by entry deadline.
  • Online entries still have the option to purchase up to (6) discounted exhibitor tickets. Must be paid online, during checkout, and by August 15th.
  • Exhibitors filing a paper entry form, can only purchase up to (3) discounted exhibitor tickets. Must be paid at time of entry and by August 15th.
  • If you want to register online and need assistance, stop by the Kansas State Fairgrounds Administration Bldg. between 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday, with your completed paper entry form. If this is not convenient, you may also phone our office and we can walk you through the steps of our online process.
  • Allow yourself plenty of time. The length will vary for each exhibitor.
  • Each exhibitor will need their own account. If you are bringing all of your children's entries, you will need to create accounts for each child.
  • Yes, because you did entries online, you can purchase up to (6) tickets, per exhibitor. Online payment is required at time of entry by credit card. We cannot accept cash or checks for this process. We do not accept American Express.
  • We have limited IPads, so you may wish to phone ahead to inquire on availability.

READ RULES CAREFULLY

  1. Any item that does not meet the requirements will not be accepted. If item is accepted as an oversight, it may later be disqualified and/or not judged or displayed.
  2. If there is any question whether or not you have entered your item in the proper class, you need to ask the attendant during the check-in process. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to ask, otherwise the item will remain in the class it was entered in and judged there. This process can only be done during receiving hours at the request of the exhibitor. Should your item be in the wrong class and the superintendent can justify the mistake being made, we will move it to the proper class at that time. This cannot be used as a class substitution for a different item or another category.
  3. Subject matter must be original and not copies. Entries must be the work of the exhibitor with work being done since the 2017 State Fair.
  4. Entries will not be judged in "Crafts Not Listed" or “Not Specified” if there is a class for that item.
  5. Exhibitor can only win and be paid for one placing per class.
  6. Each article in a collection or plural exhibit must show the exhibitor's name and class of competition.
  7. All drawings and art work must be securely mounted with tabs for hanging. All school artwork entered will be stapled to a display board & must be mounted on construction paper or light weight poster board. Do not use expensive mats.
  8. Art work in frames, on stretchers, or canvas must have wire or eyes for hanging. Do not use nailed on hangers or masking tape - Classes in Divisions 4 & 100.
  9. Shipped Items - Shipping charges on all exhibits must be prepaid. Packages should be addressed to: Kansas State Fair, Competitive Exhibits Department, 2000 N. Poplar, Hutchinson, KS 67502. ATTN: Fine Arts Department. SUFFICIENT POSTAGE, PREPAID LABEL, MONEY ORDER, CHECK OR CASH TO COVER COST OF INSURANCE AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR RETURN SHIPPING SHOULD BE ATTACHED TO THE ENTRY FORM. When mailing contains multiple entries, please attach (by pin) exhibitor's name for proper identification.
  10. Our primary audience consists of family and youth. We reserve the right to reject any entry that may be considered objectionable by that audience.
  11. All exhibits will receive the best care and protection in their surroundings. They are at all times subject to owner's risk and in no event will the department or the OZ Building be responsible for any damage that may occur. All exhibits will be displayed at the discretion of the Fine Arts Department.

Merit Awards - There are (10) special awards available for all entries in any school age art class. Winners of these awards must provide their social security number in order to receive payment.

Decorative Painting - This is a teachable form of art which is considered a learned skill. Decorative painters generally have no previous or known painting skills prior to learning it as a skill. Entries may be painted on any usable surface or object, using any painting medium, including oils, acrylics, watercolor, textile/fabric paint, glass paint, and colored pencils. Drawing and/or design skills are an advantage, but not required. Entries may be painted individually or in a class with an instructor. All painting must be exclusively by the artist without any mechanical assistance or duplication.

PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES


KANSAS DISTRICT OF KIWANIS - KIWANIS CLUB OF HUTCHINSON sponsors classes for individuals with a disability who have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more "major life activities", has a record of such impairment, or is regarded as having such an impairment.

Premiums awarded for divisions 407 – 410 are 1st - $7, 2nd - $5, 3rd - $5, 4th - $4, 5th - $4, 6th - $3, 7th - $3 and 8th - $2. Best of Show in each division will receive $10 & Rosette and Runner-up Best of Show $8 & Rosette

  1. ALL entries in this division must be done on a Fine Arts entry form or done as an individual entry online. School forms will no longer be accepted for these particular classes.
  2. Each individual must have a separate entry form. The Life Coach cannot enter under their name or put all entries on one form. All entries in these divisions must follow the August 15th deadline date.

Division 412 - Duct Tape

Premiums awarded for this division are 1st - $25, 2nd - $15 and 3rd - $10

  1. Each exhibitor may enter only one item per class.
  2. Create an item using duct tape. Item must be made with 90% duct tape (any color allowed)
  3. Create your own class is an opportunity to show creativity. Item should be made with a good clean wholesome nature. No vulgar or suggestive decorations will be allowed.

Exhibitor must provide own building materials. Tables will be provided. Exhibitor will have three feet of table space.

  1. Use LEGO® brand bricks and pieces (or compatible ones such as Mega Bloks). Specialized pieces from themed sets (LEGO® City, Star Wars, Creator, etc.) are allowed.
  2. One entry per participant or family / team allowed. Exhibitors may enter in the individual competition and be part of the family/team build.
  3. Exhibitors competing in the family/team build will be competing for single prize.
  4. "Find Your Fun"by re-creating your favorite livestock area on the fairgrounds. Your project can be no larger than 15” in length, width or height, and is your own creation, NOT a kit, a set, or a design someone else made. It should look as close to our actual fairgrounds as possible. No marking or painting on pieces, and no sketches, drawings or blueprints are allowed in the competition area. The use of a cell phone, tablet, or photo for reference and / or directions is also prohibited. Judge appreciates "basic" bricks used creatively!
  5. Exhibitors must use some kind of baseplate under the creation to make it easy to transport. It can be a LEGO® brand baseplate, a sturdy piece of cardboard, or something similar, as long as it is no larger than 15" in any direction, and keeps the display securely in place. Models must be secure enough to move.
  6. To ensure fairness, exhibitors will be required to build their model on site.
  7. All pieces must be together in one container. Building pieces cannot be separated into individual bags or containers.
  8. Each individual / team will have a set time limit of ONE HOUR to create their masterpiece.
  9. No on-site assistance will be permitted during the competition; no one but the exhibitor is permitted within the area in which the competition is held.
  10. All models will be judged based on originality, creativity, detail and design.
  11. Winning entries will be displayed at the Fair and available for pick-up Sunday, September 17 at 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Other entries may or may not be displayed during the fair, based on availability of space. Non-winning entries should be picked up same day of contest after enjoying the Fair. The Kansas State Fair is not responsible for damaged or lost property.
  12. The judge's decision is final .

The Kansas Wheat Photo Contest is for photographs featuring all phases of the wheat industry. These color photographs will be used to promote Kansas as America's No. 1 Wheat State. All Kansans - amateur and professional photographers - are invited to capture the story of Kansas wheat. All entries become property of the Kansas Wheat Commission, but the commission does not purchase exclusive rights.

  1. Contestants are limited to two entries but can only win one placing.
  2. Any subject featuring wheat may be entered: seeding, storage, wheat fields, harvest, custom crews, grain trade, milling, wheat products, baking and more. Photos of wheat during winter and spring time would be helpful.
  3. Please print as glossy or matte prints. 8” x 10” prints when matted are 11” x 14”. A panoramic print 5” x 15” matted can be no larger than 10” x 20”. No frames allowed.
  4. Digital photographs are required. Please save the digital image to a jump drive or CD which is to be included with your entry . Please label the entry with your name, hometown and e-mail address, if available.
  5. Photographs must be taken by the person making the entry, but the contestant need not have processed the film or photographic print. No "signed" prints may be entered. The photographs may have been taken at any time, entered in other contests and / or previously published.
