RELEASE TIMES: All exhibitors that reside 150 or more miles away from Hutchinson (for all livestock groups that are eligible for release) at 3:00 pm on the last Sunday. All other exhibitors (for all livestock groups that are eligible for release) at 4:00 pm on the last Sunday

Entries are subject to the Kansas State Fair General Information and Rules

  1. Swine must be owned by the exhibitors. Registration and transfers of ownership must be duly recorded in the records of its recognized Breed Registry Association by opening date of the Fair. Animals not registered will not be eligible for show or premium money except Crossbreed Market Barrows. NOTE: All Berkshire swine must be registered by the American Berkshire Association, P.O. Box 2436, 1769 US 52 West, West Lafayette, IN 47996. Said registration paper must be presented at time of check-in. The ABA is the only Berkshire swine registry recognized by the National Association of Swine Records and the National Pedigreed Livestock Council.
  2. All other pure breeds (Division 400) will be for those pure bred breeding animals that do not have their own breed show. They will be judged and placed based on breed character and quality. No premier sire will be selected.
  3. There must be more than one exhibitor in a class to pay more than one premium placing.
  4. All breeding swine must be in place by 6:00 pm, Wednesday, September 12. The barns on the grounds will not be open for the reception of swine before 8:00 am, Wednesday, September 12.
  5. The superintendent of this department reserves the right to demand evidence from any exhibitor upon questions arising under these rules.
  6. Pedigrees must be exhibited when making entry at Fair for Breeding and Market shows.
  7. An exhibitor may enter and show eight boars and eight gilts per breed. Not over three may be entered in a particular class. Registration papers must be in the exhibitor's name or farm name.
  8. All pens, and alleys adjoining, must be cleaned before 8:00 am each day and refuse disposed of as the superintendent directs. Pens and alleys must be kept clean throughout the day.
  9. Pen fee is $7.00 per pen. Two standard head allowed in pen. Only one large allowed in pen. No more than two animals to be placed in any one pen. All pens are 5' x 5' square.
  10. All exhibits in this department must be properly entered on the books before they are brought into the show ring.
  11. Only one showman per pig allowed in the show ring. If youth cannot handle swine safely in show ring adult should show animal alone.
  12. Stalls - dismantling or tampering with any stall panels or pens is prohibited due to safety concerns and may jeopardize exhibitor participation at the Kansas State Fair.

Division 2107 – Market Barrows

KANSAS STATE FAIR OFFERS..................................................................................$1,650.00

The Barrow Show is a Pedigree Show and pedigrees will be checked at weigh-in.

  1. The Kansas State Fair Market Barrow Show is NOT a terminal show, and a floor buyer WILL NOT be provided.
  2. Each market barrow will be assessed a $10 entry fee, plus a $7 pen fee, with 80% of the fee remitted to the top 50% of each class.
  3. Barrows will be weighed Friday, September 14, from 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm. One official weighing only.
  4. All barrows must be accompanied by an official health certificate before unloading on the fairgrounds.
  5. All swine entered in the barrow class must have been farrowed after February 1, current year.
  6. Ladies Barrow Champion is eligible to show in the Grand Champion Market Barrow class if the $10 entry fee has been paid. Champion Ladies Barrow that pays $10 fee will be placed directly in Championship Barrow Drive.
  7. An exhibitor may enter and receive premiums on two entries in a breed.
  8. At least five barrows of the same breed will be needed to have a breed barrow show. Any breed with less than five entries will be shown in the mixed purebred class.
  9. Barrows will be shown by breeds and broken by weights (220-290 lbs.) equally. The breed champions will be eligible to compete for Grand Champion Barrow of the breed designated as grand champion

Division 2108 – Commercial Gilts

  1. The Kansas State Fair Commercial Gilt Show is NOT a terminal show, and a floor buyer WILL NOT be provided.
  2. Each Commercial Gilt will be assessed a $10 entry fee, plus a $7 pen fee, with 80% of the fee remitted to the top 50% of each class.
  3. Commercial Gilts will be weighed Wednesday, September 13, 6:30 pm. One official weighing only.
  4. All Commercial Gilt must be accompanied by an official health certificate before unloading on the fairgrounds.
  5. All swine entered in the Commercial Gilt class must have been farrowed after January 1, current year.
  6. An exhibitor may enter the Commercial Gilt class only if entering purebred gilt. Entries will be based on a one for one entry. Example: Exhibitor enters 2 pure bred gilts and you may enter 2 commercial gilts.

Division 2109 - Ladies Barrow

KANSAS STATE FAIR OFFERS..................................................................................$235.00

Ladies Barrow Class is open only to female exhibitors whose farms show in the Purebred Breeding Shows .

The Kansas State Fair will provide a trophy to the Grand and Reserve Champion Barrow.

  1. Ladies must show their own barrows. Only one entry per person. Ladies Barrow Champion is eligible to show in the Grand Champion Market Barrow class if the $10 entry fee has been paid. No other Ladies Barrow is eligible for open show.
  2. Ladies Barrows will be judged Friday, September 14, 30 minutes following Durocs Breeding Show.
  3. Barrows must weigh between 220 and 290 lbs.
  4. Ladies Barrow entries not subject to $10 Barrow entry fee but must pay the $7 pen fee.
  5. Ladies Barrow weigh in will be Wednesday, September 12, 6:30 pm

Champions

American Berkshire Association offers a plaque to the overall Grand champion Market Barrow if the animal is from a recorded Berkshire litter, and the Association is supplied a photo and story within thirty days of the show. Chester White Association will award $100 to the Grand Champion Barrow if it is a purebred registered Chester White. Owner must furnish the Association with the recorded litter number, a picture and story within thirty days after the show to qualify.
