Graphic Design/Marketing Internship at the Kansas State Fair

The Kansas State Fair is seeking a graphic design and marketing intern to assist our marketing and sponsorship teams in promoting the fair and our mission of celebrating Kansas, including its culture, communities and economy.

This is an opportunity to gain various marketing, graphic design, event planning, administrative, communication and public relations skills.

This is a temporary, paid internship.


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Support and work with the Kansas State Fair Marketing Director and Sponsorship Director and their teams on promotional and design projects to help promote the fair and its various partners. This includes digital, web and print design projects such as websites, direct mail pieces, digital assets for advertising, social media and more. Other tasks may include assisting with administrative tasks and event / program planning.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently enrolled in accredited university or community college and working toward completing degree in related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Knowledgeable in digital marketing and social media
  • Able to graphically execute creative concepts.
  • Website management skills
  • Video editing skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Desire to have an impact and feel passionate about the work that you do
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and maintain attention to detail
  • Hard working and able to take direction from other people
  • Applicant must be able to produce accurate and consistent high-quality work.


We would like to fill this position as soon as possible. Projected start date is May 20, 2019. Internship ends in August. Chosen applicant will be extended the opportunity to work during the Kansas State Fair, Sept. 6-15, but this is not required.

Explore Kansas Festival Manager

The Kansas State Fair is seeking a person passionate about Kansas and its communities to manage the fair’s first-ever Explore Kansas Festival.

The Explore Kansas Festival is Sept. 7-8, 2019. The Explore Kansas Festival at the Kansas State Fair is a way to educate our fairgoers about the things our state has to offer. The two-day showcase brings together communities and attractions from across the state, creating a place for the public to discover Kansas treasures.

We see the Kansas State Fair as an important mouthpiece for Kansas Tourism. The Explore Kansas Festival can help visitors find unique cafes, fishing holes., hiking trails, next summer’s vacation spot, historic sites, natural landmarks, museums, performing centers, arts and culture and events — or even a new place to call home.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The applicant would assist the Kansas State Fair Director of Marketing and the Fair’s Commercial Exhibits Manager in putting on the Explore Kansas Festival. The position of Festival Manager would be the point person for this event, working with communities on setup, needs and tear down. This position would run this event during the fair.

The position would include working a few days before the start of the fair. Applicant must be able to work Sept. 6-8, 2019. Applicant will put in 12- to 15-hour days during this event.

  • Applicant must be able to prioritize, multi-task and maintain attention to detail
  • Must have a passion for Kansas communities
  • Must be able to give direction and lead this event
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Skills in event planning preferred
  • Applicant must be hardworking and have an aim create a high-quality event
