2nd Annual High School Photography Internship

General Information:

The student intern must commit to work at least one 3-hour shift at the Kansas State Fair, but may sign up for more than one day if desired. Note: The High School Photography Supervisor reserves the right to limit the number of shifts an intern works.

The intern will primarily take candid photos that showcase the people and activities taking place on the Fairgrounds. The photography instructor may also request that the intern shoot a specific event(s) taking place during their shift. The first 30 minutes of their shift, the intern will receive instructions and basic photography education followed by 1 1/2 hours on the fairgrounds taking photos. The last 1 hour of the student's shift will be used to edit photos and submit for recognition and awards.

Recognition and Awards:
People’s Choice Award: At the conclusion of the Fair, 20 photos will be selected as candidates for the People's Choice competition. A panel of professional photographers will select the 20 photos to be voted on. The public will have one week to vote for their favorite of those photos. The intern whose photo receives the most votes will receive the People’s Choice Award which includes a Champion Rosette. The photo with the second most votes will receive a Reserve Champion Rosette.

Agriculture Photo, Animal: Interns submit one photo depicting an agricultural scene from the Fair (Examples: Competitor with and animal, farm animals/livestock, etc.). The KSF Photo Intern whose Agriculture Photo is selected will have that photo submitted to the International Association of Fairs and Expositions and will receive a Kansas State Fair Rosette.

Agriculture Photo, Non-animal: Interns submit one photo depicting an agricultural scene from the Fair (Examples: horticulture exhibit, operation of farm machinery, FFA or 4-H exhibit). The KSF Photo Intern whose Agriculture Photo Series is selected will have that photo series submitted to the International Association of Fairs and Expositions and will receive a Kansas State Fair Rosette.

Action Photo: Interns submit one action photo from the Fair (Examples: rides moving/spinning, kids running, animal moving, tractor moving, etc.). Think "implied movement" to avoid blurry photos. The KSF Photo Intern whose Action Photo is selected will receive a Kansas State Fair Rosette.

Food Photo: Interns submit one photo from the Fair showcasing food. Get creative! The KSF Photo Intern whose Food Photo is selected will receive a Kansas State Fair Rosette.

Best Overall Fair Photo: The photography instructor and the Kansas State Fair Education Coordinator will choose the photo they think best showcases the Kansas State Fair. The 1st place Overall Fair Photo will receive a Grand Champion Kansas State Fair Rosette. The 2nd place Overall Fair Photo will receive a Kansas State Fair Reserve Champion Rosette.
