Level: Elementary School, Grades K-3

Topic: Charlotte Goes to the Kansas State Fair

Objectives: Gain skills in reading comprehension
Gain observation skills

Materials: A copy of Charlotte's Web

Before the Fair
1. The teacher will read aloud the book Charlotte's Web and discuss content as appropriate with grade level. Introduce vocabulary about spiders, farms, and fairs.
2. Secure a plastic "Charlotte" for each student to take to the fair with them. (Most novelty companies have inexpensive plastic spiders.)
At the Fair
The students will visit each of the exhibits listed on the teacher made worksheet. Click here for Educational Activities.

After the Fair
The students will write a story from "Charlotte's" point of view about the Kansas State Fair.

Example of Recording Sheet:

Name of Student:

Materials needed: Charlotte, pencil, and this recording sheet.

Directions: As you visit each of the following exhibits (buildings), record one sentence pretending to be Charlotte.
