Born in Texas and raised in Sterling Kansas, Randy started playing guitar in January 1970 and banjo in July 1974. He has taken lessons from several instructors over the years and played with many bands.

Living in Stuttgart Germany for six years gave him the opportunity to play bluegrass around Western Europe with Hotgrass. Coming back to Kansas he resumed playing and teaching full time. Jazz, rock, country, folk, blues and bluegrass are his trade as well as songwriting. He is well know as a teacher. He has also played many musicals over the years. A lifelong passion for playing and teaching has given him a vocation to be able to do what he loves.
