For over 20 years, Damaris Kunkler wrote songs and played them mostly at home for her kids, but never in public. That changed about seven years ago — on her 40th birthday, to be exact; she decided to take her music to the public and start playing at some local spots.
Earlier this year she put several of her songs on a cd and submitted it to a singer/songwriter competition in Lawrence. Lo and behold, she took first place in March and earned the right to record another CD in the near future and increased demand to perform across the state, etc. — Damaris still isn’t comfortable calling herself a genuine singer/songwriter; but the world seems to have a different opinion.
