Objective:
Students to gain hands on practice of skip counting by 5’s. State Standards for Math 2.NBT.2: Count within 1000; skip-count by 5’s, 10’s and 100’s.

Materials: Paper and pencil.

Student Challenge:
How many fruits are on display in the Agriculture Department in the Pride of Kansas Building? How many plates of fruit are on display in the Agriculture Department in the Pride of Kansas Building?

Lesson:
During your Kansas State Fair field trip, visit the Agriculture Department in the Pride of Kansas Building (see fairgrounds map for building location). Look at all the fruit on display. How many fruits are on a plate? How many plates are on display? Counting by 5’s, how many total fruits are on display?

Standard: 2. Count within 1000, skip-count by 5s, 10s, and 100s.
