Objective: Students to demonstrate understanding of structure and function of objects. KCCRS for Science K-2 ETS.1.2: Develop a simple sketch, drawing or physical model to illustrate how the shape of an object helps its function as needed to solve a given problem. The shape and stability of structures of natural and designed objects related to their function(s). KCCRS for English Language Arts 2.W.2.8: Recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question(s).

Materials: Paper and pencil.

Student Challenge:
Locate the farm machinery exhibit. Draw and explain how the shape and design of the equipment helps it function and how this would help farmers.

Lesson:
During your Kansas State Fair field trip visit the farm machinery exhibit area. Have the students pick a piece of equipment to learn about. Students can ask question from the sales staff, read information on and around the exhibit to help them gain an understanding of what the equipment does and how it works. Back in the classroom students can draw their piece of equipment and explain to the class what the function is of this equipment and how the shape and design helps the equipment work.
