RECEIVING TIMES: Noon - 10:00 pm, Thursday, September 7 and 6:00 am - 9:00 am, Friday, September 8. Enter fair grounds at gate #1 ***If tickets are ordered, once items are checked in, tickets will be received at this time.

RELEASE TIMES: You may check out early at 3:00 pm if you reside at least 150 miles away. If you are not outside that mileage, check out time is 6:00 pm on Sunday, September 17. Exhibits must be claimed by 7:00 pm if at all possible.

ENTRY FEES: $1 per Bird; $2 for Birds Double Cooped if entered by August 15. Late fees will apply from August 16 thru August 25. Double coops will be permitted for large fowl only. Double coops are limited; therefore, entries with earliest postmark will be given first priority.

RECEIVING & RELEASE INFORMATION: To gain access to the Fairgrounds and drop off and/or claim exhibits, exhibitor must have a delivery/release hangtag obtained from the gatekeepers at the entrance to the fairgrounds at Gate #1. These permits are limited to one-half hour admittance to the Fairgrounds, and violators will be towed at their expense. Hangtag will be time stamped by the gate keeper and enforced by parking attendants. This hangtag should be displayed on the vehicle during pick-up and/or release. Please claim exhibits by 7:00 pm, Sunday, September 17. You may check out at 3:00 pm if you reside at least 150 miles away.

REMINDER: All exhibits shall remain in place until the release time listed in each Department. Exhibits will be released at 6:00 pm, Sunday, Sept. 17. No carrying cages will be allowed in the building before 6:00 pm. All exhibits, including 4-H Poultry, must stay in place until 6:00 pm Sunday, Sept. 17, even if sold. To gain access to the Fairgrounds and claim exhibits, exhibitor must have a release hang tag that is obtained at the gate when entering. This hang tag should be displayed on the vehicle during pick-up. Please claim exhibits by 7:00 pm. Any violation of this rule will cause forfeiture of all premiums earned by exhibitor and possible disqualification for future competition.

Entries are subject to the Kansas State Fair General Information and Rules

There must be more than one exhibitor in a class to pay more than one premium placing.

  1. All entries must be the property of the exhibitor. Any exhibitor in violation of this rule will be subject to disqualification.
  2. Entries will not be accepted unless band numbers are listed on entry forms. All birds including waterfowl and turkeys must be banded when placed in coops.
  3. The comparison system of judging as outlined in the American Standard of Perfection will be used in placing the awards. A.P.A. rules will govern in the matter of protests.
  4. The Kansas State Fair will furnish all feed, water and care for all birds that are exhibited and provide standard cooping.
  5. All birds brought to the Fairgrounds must be entered in the show with the appropriate fees paid on time.
  6. Birds entered in 4-H cannot be entered in open class.
  7. All eggs laid during the Fair will be gathered by the management and will be the property of the State Fair. Birds or eggs are not to be removed from the exhibit room without permission from the superintendent in charge. A person violating any of the rules will forfeit any premium money plaques and ribbons that may have been awarded.
  8. The same birds cannot compete in both single and trio classes except birds in first place trios may compete for Sweepstakes Awards.
  9. As soon as all available space has been taken, the management reserves the right to refuse entries. Only 1,500 available coops.
  10. In any class where only one entry is made, awards will be made at the discretion of the judges, based on the quality of the exhibit. In the event the total amount of premiums awarded exceeds the amount available to the department, the amount paid will be prorated on a percentage basis.
  11. Classes will be provided for each of the breeds and varieties listed in the latest edition of American Standard of Perfection and, if deemed worthy by the judges, shall receive awards. Any other breed or variety entered must be identified on the entry form as to the breed and variety, followed by the notation A.O.V. All fowl shall compete in classes as follow:
  • CHICKENS: Cock, a male one year old or over. Hen, a female one year old or over. Cockerel, a male less than one year old. Pullet, a female less than one year old. Old trio, a cock and two hens. Young Trio, a cockerel and two pullets.
  • TURKEYS: Old Tom, a male one year old or over. Old Hen, a female one year old or over. Young Tom, a male less than one year old. Young Hen, a female less than one year old.
  • GEESE: Old Gander, a male one year old or over. Old Goose, a female one year old or over. Young Gander, a male less than one year old. Young Goose, a female less than one ear old.
  • DUCKS: Old Drake, a male one year old or over. Old Duck, a female one year old or over. Young Drake, a male less than one year old. Young Duck, a female less than one year old.
  • GUINEAS: Cock, a male one year old or over. Hen, female one year old or over. Cockerel, a male less than one year old. Pullet, female less than one year old.

Pullorum-Typhoid Requirements

  1. All birds will be examined on arrival by a recognized pathologist and any evidence of disease will cause the entire entry to be refused. Entry fee will not be refunded. Birds vaccinated within 30 days of opening date of fair will not be accepted.
  2. All poultry, except waterfowl, must show proof that they are Pullorum-Typhoid clean by one of the following methods:
Originate from a U.S. Pullorum-Typhoid Clean flock as evidence by an official VS Form 9-3 a) Certifying all birds in the flock over 4 months of age have had negative test for Pullorum-Typhoid within the past year. b) Present evidence that the entries were purchased from U.S. Pullorum-Typhoid Clean source and have been either the only poultry on the premises of the owner or have been physically separated from other flocks. c)Present an official VS Form 9-2 signed by an official testing agent showing that the entries have had a negative result from a Pullorum-Typhoid test conducted within 90 days prior to the fair. The sealed leg band number of the bird(s) must appear on the form. d)A qualified testing agent will be available Thursday, September 8, Noon to 10:00 pm. Birds may be tested at this time. A small per bird testing fee will be charged, and a VS Form 9-2 issued for birds with negative results. Some feather soiling may be expected as a result of this test. If any birds in an entry test positive for Pullorum-Thyphoid, the entire entry, as well as all of the poultry, from the same premises, will be refused.

Display Contest

Chickens – Special for display, any one variety shall be made on points as follows

1st - 6 points, 2nd - 4 points, 3rd - 3 points, 4th – 2 points, 5th – 1 point

The points won in each class will be multiplied by the number of entries exhibited in that particular class. To be eligible for the display contest, an exhibitor shall exhibit at least one cock, one hen, one cockerel, one pullet and one trio.

Turkeys, Ducks, Geese & Guineas – Displays shall be calculated the same as for chickens. To be eligible for the contest, an exhibitor shall have at least one exhibit in each of the four classes of the variety and a total of seven birds in the variety to be considered.

Premiums for display contest – 1 st - $25.00, 2nd - $20.00, 3rd - $15.00

AMERICAN POULTRY ASSOCIATION - Special Meet

The APA invites you to become a member. Adult dues are $15/one year or $40/three years. Junior dues (for those 18 and under) are $10/one year. Adult members receive the yearbook and are eligible to earn Master Exhibitor points at sanctioned shows. All members receive the quarterly and are eligible for the awards at this show. MEDAL AWARDS: An APA Medal will be awarded to the Champion Bird in each of the following classes when ten or more birds are judged in the class.

Large Chickens: American, Asiatic, English, Mediterranean, Continental, & All Other Standard Breeds.

Bantams: Modern Game, Old English Game, Single Comb Clean Legged (Other than Game), Rose Comb Clean Legged, All Other Combs Clean Legged, & Feather Legged.

Ducks: Heavy, Medium, Light, & Bantam.

Geese: Heavy, Medium, & Light.

Turkeys: All compete in one class.

Guineas: All compete in one class

CERTIFICATE AWARDS: When ten or more are judged, certificates will be given for each of the following: Grand & Reserve Champion Large Chicken, Grand & Reserve Champion Bantam, Grand & Reserve Champion Duck, Grand & Reserve Champion Goose, Champion & Reserve Champion Turkey and Grand & Reserve Guinea.

JUNIOR AWARDS: A medal plus a one year junior membership will be given to the juniors showing the Champion Large Chicken, the Champion Bantam, and the Champion of Ducks, Geese and Turkeys combined and Guineas. Juniors need not be members to receive these junior awards. Best of Breed ribbons have been furnished to the show. Winners of these ribbons need not be APA members. All judging shall be by the latest edition of the American Standard of Perfection, copyrighted by the American Poultry Association, Inc. Dues will be accepted in the showroom prior to judging or they may be sent to the American Poultry Association. Please remit in US dollars.

Only ABA members are eligible for ABA awards. Dues are $20.00 a year or $50 for three years. New members receive a copy of the quarterly and latest available copy of the Annual American Bantam Association Year Book which lists many advertisers and includes a complete breed and variety index. Winners of ABA awards are listed in the year book under

WHO'S WHO IN BANTAMS.

  • $1 Bantam Buck for Champion and Reserve for all seven bantam divisions providing there are a minimum of twenty-five birds competing, plus a free listing in the upcoming ABA Yearbook in the section WHO'S WHO IN BANTAMS.
  • $1 Bantam Buck for Champion and Reserve Champion in all other classes of 100 or more, plus a listing in the upcoming yearbook in the section WHO'S WHO IN BANTAMS.
  • Personalized Certificates to Champion and Reserve Champion Bantam.

Starred wins are earned in classes of one hundred or more in the following: (All wins in Classes of one hundred or more will be denoted with a star * and be retained in the ABA records to accumulate towards the Master Exhibitor, Master Breeder, and Lifetime Achievement Awards):

  • Champions and Reserve Champions in the seven bantam divisions.
  • Best and Reserve of Breed and Variety.
  • Best Display when seven or more bantam displays are shown.

A single bird is eligible for only one award and can earn only one starred win. *Awards are subject to change.

INTERNATIONAL WATERFOWL BREEDERS ASSOCIATION

The Kansas State Fair will host the special meet of the International Waterfowl Breeders Association. The I.W.B.A. is pleased to offer the following awards to members in good standing at the start of judging. In order to qualify for these awards there must be a minimum of one hundred waterfowl in competition (at least fifty ducks and twenty-five geese included).
