When is the Fair held each year?

The Fair traditionally begins the Friday following Labor Day each September.

How does the Fair's admission price compare with other forms of entertainment?
At $7.00 for a regular priced adult admission, $5.00 for seniors, and just $4.00 for children, the Fair is an incredible bargain for the entire family. It's cheaper than almost any sporting event or movie. The Fair spends over $100,000 each year on various entertainment that is all free once you are in the gate. For example, in 2007 we will offer an exotic animal petting zoo, pig races, several roving entertainers, the Cool Dog Thrill Show, a sand sculpture and hundreds of hours of entertainment on the AT & T Arena, the Gottschalk Park Gazebo, and the Stage at Lake Talbott Park. And better yet, you can get your gate ticket even cheaper if you buy it prior to the opening day of the Fair. Oh yeah, children ages 5 and under are free!!

How many years has the Kansas State Fair been held in Hutchinson?
The first official Kansas State Fair was held in Hutchinson in 1913.

When is the entry form deadline for the 4-H/FFA Grand Drive?
Entry deadline is July 15.  If sending by mail, it must be postmarked by this date.

When is the deadline for submitting an entry in competitive exhibit open classes?
Entry deadline is August 15.  If sending by mail, it must be postmarked by this date.  Entering after this date is possible, but late fees will apply to any entries submitted following August 15.

How many commercial exhibitors are at the Fair?
There are nearly 700 exhibitors occupying over 1,100 commercial exhibit spaces.  These include exhibitors in the Meadowlark, Sunflower North, Sunflower South, Pride of Kansas, Eisenhower, Grandstand, and Ad Astra buildings, as well as those covering dozens of acres of outside space.  And don't forget those always popular food vendors.

What is the record attendance for the Kansas State Fair?
361,647 people attended the 1995 Kansas State Fair, surpassing the modern day record of 343,241 in 1984.  1998 was the second highest attended Fair with 358,159.

How is the Fair funded?

While the Fair is a State Agency and its property is owned by the State, it is what's known as a fee fund agency.  This means the Fair is responsible for generating its own funds through the fees it charges at the Fair and by renting its facilities throughout the year.

Do other events take place on the Fairgrounds throughout the year?
On average, over 230 non-fair events take place on the fairgrounds throughout the year.  These include local and national livestock shows, horse shows, family reunions, wedding receptions, flea markets, and RV rallies, just to name a few.

What is Kansas' Largest Classroom?
Kansas' Largest Classroom is the Fair's educational field trip program held during the annual State Fair.  Teachers are encouraged to bring their class to the Fair Monday through Friday to learn about many topics, including agriculture, art, math, and much more.
